Project Overview
September - November 2020
Keeper is a team project I worked on within my internship in Apple Academy. Keeper helps caregivers monitor the whereabouts and safety of their elders, both inside and outside of the house. To achieve this, Keeper utilizes device's connection with Apple Watch (by distance),  iBeacons (by measured indoor rooms), and Geofencing
The Challenge
We were challenged with the question: "How to aliviate the difficulties family members face when taking care of elders with dementia?". We brainstormed and prioritized the problem that has the most fatal effect, and most viable solution to tackle within the timeline, which was: Security.
Research & Findings
Researches and interviews were done not only to validate the problem, but also to ensure our designers have enough understanding of the problem caregivers are experiencing. Caregivers need to put extra attention on what the elders are doing, in case the elders do things that they don't realise is harmful. This is also related to places the elders go, like the bathroom.

Knowing this, we explored the touch points where our technology can come and support the user's flow. We found 3 important areas where users need help the most, and we ensured out product provides assistance in said areas: Knowing the specific room the elders are in, whether or not the elders walk out of the house, and also ensuring elders doesn't walk too far without monitoring in public places.
Our app design consists of two very simple pages. Location, and Settings. We acknowledge caregivers are often occupied with their schedule that in order to provide seamless support, our app needs to be as straightforward and functional as possible.

Dynamic Location page will auto-update with the current position of the connected elders, and in order to reach users for urgent cases where elders go to places they shouldn't go without assistance, we will use direct notifications.

Our warm copywriting is also adjusted to give users feedback on how to spend more wholesome time with elders. This is an added feature we designed based on feedbacks we got from busy caregivers that feels like they need ideas on what to do.

Setting up the devices are also made as simple as possible. Simply scan QR codes to connect devices, and caregivers are able to share it with other family members for extra assistance.
Future Improvements
During the process, admittedly we spend quite the amount of time to find alternatives for our solutions to work, despite technical difficulties. With better management on problem and solution prioritization, we can be more time-effective.

We also learn a lot about designing in tiny screen for Apple Watch, which has its own features and usages. More research on these points can definitely help improve the design and users experience.
